THE CONCEPT OF EMBODIMENT

Embodiment is the practice of reading and being aware of your feelings.

Body awareness serves as an orientation point, to help you feel more in charge of the course of your life. This knowledge provides you with a basis for empathy, helps you make healthy decisions, and gives important feedback on your relationships with others. Embodiment in somatic psychology applies mindfulness and movement practices to awaken body awareness as a tool for healing.

Pioneers of this approach are:

– Psychiatrist Bessel Van der Kolk author of The Body Keeps the Score. Some data on the book’s scope. In 2019, The Body Keeps the Score ranked second in the science category of the New York Times bestseller list, and at the end of October 2023, The Body Keeps the Score remained on Amazon’s bestseller list for 153 weeks (almost 3 years).

Dr Gabor Maté author of When the Body Says No, translated into fifteen languages. Celebrated speaker, New York Times bestselling author. An expert on trauma, addiction, stress and childhood, Dr Maté is widely followed in his lectures and talks (2.2 Mln followers on IG)

Peter Levin founder of Somatic experiencing®. It is a powerful method of psycho-physiological work for the treatment and prevention of trauma in a short period of time. The most significant contribution of Somatic Experiencing® is the understanding that what happens in the traumatic event is not merely psychological, but a complex physical, neurological and psychic reaction. Resolution of trauma lies in completing and discharging physiological processes rather than remembering or retracing the event. Trauma does not reside in the event, but in the physiology of the body.
